Apple designed chip?
amongst all the other media static surrounding the new iPad, the most thing is Apple’s custom A4 CPU.
However, it looks like it’s actually system-on-a-chip driven by a Cortex-A9 MPCore CPU “identical” to the one found inside NVIDIA’s Tegra 2, while significantly faster than the iPhone 3GS. The A4 is contains an integrated memory controller, and the Mali GPU, making it an all ARM processor — Who know’s what is really in there but I’m sure it improves Apples margins on the iPad as well as laying the ground work for non intel, macbooks…
Even if it doesn’t Apple are going to get a much better deal out of intel.
